There’s been a lot happening in real estate lately. Keeping up with the market fluctuations and the recent industry changes, there’s just a lot going on for Realtors right now. However, amidst this chaos, it is important to pay attention to the internal dialogue that we have with ourselves. As a real estate professional, our success is often determined by our mindset, especially by how we choose to speak to ourselves.

I remember one conversation that I had with one of my agents. The topic of internal dialogue came up when she mentioned her plans for the year, stating, “I’m going to try to do this, this, and this.” It made me ask her a thought-provoking question: “Are you going to try, or are you going to do it?”

This question puts into focus the difference between “trying” and “doing.” To “try” implies uncertainty and a lack of commitment, while to “do” shows determination and resolve. As Realtors, we must align our internal dialogue with actions that demonstrate unwavering commitment to our goals.

While there are many variables in real estate that are beyond our control, focusing our efforts on what we can control is much more important. This includes our attitude, our work ethic, and our internal dialogue. Here are two tips that you can use to affirm our intentions.

First, focus on the things within your control and channel your energy into actionable steps. Second, pay attention to your internal dialogue and choose your words wisely. Instead of saying, “I’ll try,” say, “I’m committed to.” By doing this, you empower yourself to take ownership of your success.

You can’t control what the buyer or seller does, but always remember that success or failure starts with the mind. By mastering your internal dialogue and using positive language, you are setting yourself on a path to success. So, make a conscious effort to cultivate a positive and determined mindset.
